Sonoma County is known to most as wine country, but did you know that the area is home to more than 140 miles of hiking trails? Hiking Sonoma County offers outdoor enthusiasts many sky-high mountain peaks and rolling green hills to explore. Hiking Sonoma County is easy when you stay here at Honor Mansion. We are located less than an hour from all the state parks and beaches making it the ideal spot for a day trip. Here are just a few of our favorite spots you’ll want to visit.

A fun day trip from the Honor Mansion is the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Sitting along the Russian River, this preserve is home to several redwoods which can tower as tall as 350 feet in the air. No matter your level of difficulty, the area is home to easy 1 mile walks to a strenuous 9-mile hike with a 1,500-foot climb.
Home to views of Fitch Mountain and Lake Sonoma Basin is Healdsburg Ridge. This area is peaceful and serene as the trails are shaded by oak trees and open up to grassy areas. Be sure to bring a picnic and soak it all in. When coming to Healdsburg Ridge to hike, there is a paved trail that runs up to the Russian River Overlook. For a more moderate hike, check out the dirt path that runs up to the Ridge Trail.
Another local spot for hiking Sonoma County is Foothill Park in Windsor. This 211-acre park offers 7 miles of hiking trails. The trails all vary in terrain so there is something for all skill levels. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of tall trees, views of the hills and ponds. Before you head to the park, be sure to bring cash for parking and a picnic to enjoy at one of their picnic areas.
When hiking Sonoma County, you want to make sure you are fully prepared. The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, terrain, and climates. Depending on the length of your hike, you’ll want to dress in layers, bring plenty of water and a snack, and wear sunscreen. Most parks will offer a park map so be sure to pick one up before you begin. We can’t wait to hear all about your adventures!
