The Preston Farm & Winery started as an old prune orchard that was purchased by Lou and Susan Preston in the 1970s. Before its grand opening, the couple visited Napa Valley and fell in love with the Trefethen Winery. In fact, Preston Vineyards is modeled in the essence of that winery when the owners developed a passion for the historic grapes of Sonoma County. With enthusiasm and inspiration in mind, the Prestons replaced the barren prune trees with Sauvignon Blanc vines to craft unique wines. This switch made them the first growers of Syrah and Petite Sirah in the local community.
To complement wine production, the couple cultivated the land with their mutual interest in diversified farming. As a result, they introduced olive groves to their land during the 1990s. Over the next decade, groves of fruit trees and plots of vegetable gardens were added and still complement the beautiful property.
Preston Vineyards not only produces savory blends but also focuses on ecological conscious, organic farming. Today, the Prestons continue to partner with programs to defeat hunger. They are also vendors at the Healdsburg Farmers Market and advocates for consuming naturally grown foods. Their mission is to spread the message about a sound farm community in which its residents understand, cherish, and protect locally sourced produce.
Preston Vineyards provides an unconventional tasting experience you won’t find anywhere else. This splendid wine lover’s paradise is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you wish to taste the wine, pay a small fee to taste and use this refundable deposit as a credit toward a wine purchase. While guided tours of the farm are only available to wine dub members, you can take a self-guided tour of this stunning farmstead.
In addition to their organic wines, try the other excellently prepared provisions. If you want to try any of these delicacies, browse the farm store, located adjacent to the tasting room. Some of the indulgent delights include freshly made loaves of bread, estate-grown olive oil, and other farm-fresh products. A seasonal selection of produce is also available to enjoy like estate-laid eggs, sauerkraut, artisan cheeses, and strawberries. Once you find your favorites, enjoy a meal in their lovely picnic grounds. After you gorge on the food, play a game on the bocce ball court, which is open Monday through Friday.
