Attracting wine enthusiasts from all over the world, Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is one of the biggest events of the year here in Sonoma County, California. Over the course of three days, guests can enjoy a variety of tastings, events, and programs and even rub elbows with the region’s top grape growers, winemakers, and chefs. This intimate, one-of-a-kind experience is one that’s offered at no other wine event – and it’s all just a short drive from the Honor Mansion! Here are a few reasons why this Sonoma wine festival should be on your bucket list.
This year’s festival will be held on Labor Day weekend (September 2-4) and will feature a wide variety of big events throughout Sonoma County. Kick off the weekend on Friday night with Sonoma Starlight at Francis Coppola Winery and dine, drink, and dance under the stars, then enjoy the Taste of Sonoma event on Saturday where you can sample vino from over 200 Sonoma County wineries and enjoy delicious dishes from local chefs. On Sunday, head to the Chateau St. Jean Winery and mingle with some of the area’s finest families at the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction. Guests can also attend a winemaker lunch series, winery barbecues, and winemaker dinner parties.
The Sonoma Wine Festival is the perfect place to indulge and features tents of delicious eats and refreshing wines. In past years, guest favorites have included the Cabernet-spiced lamb sliders from Partake by Kendall-Jackson, fresh peach cake from Dry Creek Peach and Produce, and handmade spicy tuna rolls from Rohnert Park’s Hana Japanese Restaurant. On the wine side, guests will find varietals from each wine region including the Alexander, Dry Creek, Russian River, and Sonoma valleys. Be sure to grab a plate and a glass and enjoy it all on the emerald green lawn.
Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is also the area’s largest charity event and was even named one of America’s top three wine charity fundraisers. Jointly produced by the Sonoma County Vintners and the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Foundation, all proceeds benefit local organizations – and since its inception, the festival has raised over $20 million for charities that benefit students, children, farm workers, and other people in need in Sonoma County communities. Cheers to that!
